Audio Book
There are many of us who enjoy nothing more than a good book. However, with today's busy lifestyles and the growing demands of commuting, work and our families there is hardly any time left to curl up in an armchair to read. On the other hand, even though we may not have the opportunity to pick up the latest paperback on a daily basis we might well be able to fit in a story told by an audio book.
Advances in technology have made available a variety of stories, biographies and novels in this audio format. Whilst in the past they might only have been accessible through libraries on a dozen or more cassettes, the invention of CDs and MP3s now mean audio books are both easier to obtain and also to listen to.
The opportunities for listening to a music book are almost limitless and many people now get their literary fix from downloaded MP3 files, CDs or old-fashioned cassettes rather than from a physical copy of the book. Having the choice of playing the book on a wide variety of audio devices means that avid bookworms can now enjoy their chosen novels or autobiographies whenever and wherever they please, and often whilst performing another task.
An audio book can be, for example, the perfect companion to a long journey by car or on public transport. Many people now use audible books as an alternative to radio in their car on their journeys to and from their office or workplace. Others listen to audio books when travelling on public transport as a good story can provide the perfect accompaniment to a boring bus or train journey.
Another popular use for an audiobook is when undertaking exercise. Again, as an alternative to listening to music many fitness fanatics listen to books on their portable CD player or mp3 player whilst running, cycling or participating in other forms of both indoor and outdoor exercise.
As well as offering busy people the opportunity to fit the reading of a book around their hectic lifestyle, an audible book can also be a very useful learning tool. Not only are there a multitude of audio books on educational subjects (such as self-development or language skills) but many people also read the hard copy of the book along with the audio to pick up words that they previously didn't know. Children also enjoy listening and learning from audiobooks, many of which have sound effects or other interactive features.
If you are too find that you don't have time in your busy schedule to fit in the reading you want to do, an audio book could very well be the solution for you.
